Session 1: Blackletter and Variations

Alphabets: 15 versions of Blackletter with metal nibs

Materials & Techniques: ink jet prints, cut paper, good papers, stained letters,

traditional and contemporary layout and design

 

Session 2: Working on Vellum

Alphabets: Blackletter or individual choice

Materials & Techniques: Vellum: choosing, preparing, lining, lettering on, using

color and gold leaf, making corrections

 

Session 3: Illumination on Vellum

Alphabets: monoline romans

Materials & Techniques: gilding (two types), color work, ink jet prints, traditional

and contemporary layout and design

 

Session 4; Primitive to Modern

Alphabets: built up romans

Materials & Techniques: gilding (three types), pastel dust, color work, staining vellum

with brazilwood dye

 

Session 5: DESIGN- Deconstructing the Grid

Alphabets: constructed romans

Materials & Techniques: collage, cut papers, color copies, layout and design for reproduction

 

Session 6: Experiencing the Book as a new Structure

Alphabets: use of type

Materials & Techniques: experimental book design and binding, transparencies,

cut papers, decorative papers, color copies
