PICK OF THIS WEEK - Week #38
This work is by Kimlien Tran.

To believe in Fairies

I was trying to design a border for a block of text written on watercolor paper using Finetech watercolor paints. This 9" x 12" work was one of the studies that I did for the project.

To make the iridescent paints on the leaves show their true colors, first, I painted different washes of purple, red, blue, green, and yellow watercolor on each group of leaves to create a rainbow of colored leaves. When the paper was completely dried, I painted the Finetech iridescent paint on all the watercolor washes. Each color of iridescent paint was chosen according to the color of the wash underneath it. Finally, I used the pointed nib and Summi gold ink to outline the leaves and the stems to make them stand out more because the Finetech gold appeared darker and lost its color at certain light angles.
